The task of a trainer is simple: find out what goal a person is really pursuing and motivate him / her to achieve it. This should happen as quickly as possible, so you have to find the right steps - and thus work out a plan. The best results are achieved when the person realizes the benefits of their goal for themselves. In psychology this is called intrinsic motivation. I've said many times that setting and reaching a goal is a learnable skill, but sometimes you have to look deep within yourself to find motivation.
Here are seven of the many reasons you should set a goal.
1. WHAT DO YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE IN LIFE?
Goals reflect your values and standards. I haven't met anyone who has set goals like "start smoking" or "drink more beer". When you value yourself and want health, energy, and productivity, your goals will reflect your self-image. As you progress, it reinforces and realizes your values - that's when they actually become a reality.
When you set a goal, you define the direction you want to go and it becomes harder to get off that path. Small, healthy and realistic goals that fit your beliefs and values are an easy way to get started on the path to progress.
2. GET TO KNOW YOURSELF
Perhaps the most important skill in life is knowing why you are doing what you are doing. How do you tick
The guides teach us to listen to our body and the voice in our head because the constant thoughts and inner dialogue make us unhappy. Then our actions reinforce the thoughts and vice versa. As you set a goal and work towards that goal, you will learn important (and really interesting!) Things about yourself - like the mind game of motivation, getting out of your comfort zone, and inner dialogue (the excuses) about why not to act should.
Mindfulness has been shown to help get rid of addictions and people around the world seem to benefit from it. Do you know the situation where you know what to do, but just can't start, or do something completely different instead? If you have a clear plan of what to do (the goal or a milestone) but your actions (your behavior) are not aligned with it, then you know what I am talking about. Taking a moment to listen to the chatter in your own brain can make a huge difference in action.
3. MOTIVATE YOURSELF
As described a million times in every goal-oriented book, a clear plan gives us momentum. If you
Have a goal or vision of which direction you want to go
Have a schedule or deadline
Have milestones and clear steps to achieve your goal
You see your progress and get the motivation to keep working towards your goal.
4. MAKE YOURSELF HAPPY AND MEET YOUR LIFE
Setting goals and making progress has been shown to increase happiness. Having a goal that you can be passionate about gives you nine reasons to wake up.
In the legendary book "The Magic of Thinking Big" one deliberately takes on a somewhat unrealistic goal. This generates the enthusiasm necessary to make further progress towards this goal every day. Even if you don't reach your goal exactly as planned, you are still moving in the right direction.
5. STOP RELAXING ON EVERYTHING
Do you have days when you can't do anything? Or where you feel productive but multitasking hardly brings any concrete results?
Try to find a goal and develop a clear plan. Look what is happening. The famous saying goes: "Well planned is half done".
6. GET AND STAY HEALTHY
We don't value health until we lose it. Even if your goal isn't directly related to a healthy lifestyle, setting a goal gives you positive energy that leads to a healthy lifestyle.
Second, the ever-growing research into how stress affects our health is clear. The given direction in life keeps you going, and we should have less time to think about all the negative things - 99.9% of which will never happen. There are so many opportunities and temptations these days that a major source of stress is not knowing what to get into.
7. CONCENTRATE AND CREATE SOMETHING
Whether you consciously set a goal or not, without a goal you will not achieve anything. Before eating, your goal is to fill your stomach, but you don't need any written instructions for this - you know from experience how to achieve your goal. If you want to accomplish something new, more complex, and more time-consuming - like saving money or changing your diet - you need a clear plan to be successful.
One thing that every self improvement guru emphasizes in their seminar is that you have to set a goal and remind your subconscious about it as often as possible. You could call this "subconscious stuff" bullshit (as I still do a lot) because you have to work hard. But even if you usually don't feel it, there is definitely something behind it - at least that's how you remember what your goals are!
GOALS LEAD TO HABITS
It doesn't really matter what your goal is. As you repeat the positive actions towards your goal over and over again, a routine begins to emerge. Habits make us who we are, and healthy habits produce healthy people.
